Note from Dominique : Years ago, after I finished my internship at MTV Networks in London during which I was expecting to be locked up in the mailroom,  but instead was flown around Europe -sometimes 1st class- to help cover all the big festivals, I was so grateful for the experience that I vowed that if I ever bumped into a skilled and eager young individual myself, I would return the favour. So we took our own apprentice, the very talented and incredibly fun Immi Abraham, on an expenses-paid trip to London Fashion Week. Because we thought he deserved a chance. And because we are hoping that one day, he will pay it forward too.

Go ‘head Immi :

KNOTORYUS came to rep hard at London Fashion Week! There was frantic running down London’s long streets (seriously, how long can a road be) and there was no time for eating (aka telling other fashion reporters you shouldn’t be having a glass of champagne because you’d only had a ‘bag of crisps on the tube’ that day and them replying “That’s fashion week baby!”). There was the registration process at Somerset House which could bring a tiny tear to anyone’s eye (“Nahh I’m sorry Miss, you ‘aven’t got enough monthly views to get a blogger pass… You came all the way from North Korea for this? Nahhh, sorryyyy..) and then there was the street style arena some call the Courtyard. As daunting a place as it gets, the battle to get papped was raging fiercely when I carefully stepped into the field. People in the crayest of get-ups leaning all casual-like against a wall, pretending to send texts while photographers went in overdrive. There even was a woman in a god-damn giant kitten head. Fashion!

Meanwhile a ton of designs were being showcased at the showrooms around Somerset House (we got in).

I also bumped into the lovely Seb from Notion Magazine (seen here in Joseph Turvey dalmatian print jacket) who was kind enough to take me to the Orla Kiely presentation, which was quite special. The models were done up in 50s working woman style (I won’t refer to the television show we’re all thinking about here), but it was simply riveting to see them typing and taking off their coats and putting them on again while a text was being typewritten on the wall in the background. Lovely!

Then I went to go find the “What Are You Doing After This” expo at the Ivory & Black Gallery, which featured work by NeckFace and Jason Dill amongst many others. Well it was supposed to, because what I saw was this:

Now I’m no skate art conoisseur, but this sure as hell wasn’t it. These men standing inside the gallery in their sharp three-piece suits and hats didn’t look like they spent much time spray-painting walls and ‘flipping ollies on the ramps’ (that’s how skaters talk, right?). Not too be discouraged I ventured inside and ended up having a lovely chat with the guys of Art Comes First, but that’s a story I’ll tell a bit later on!

After that it was time to get back to the hotel, cry at the desk because the WiFi was out and run to Starbucks only to cry a bit more because the WiFi there was out as well. Obviously this only became apparent AFTER I’d ordered a bloody tea. So picture me running through the streets of London again with hot tea spilling all over my hands whilst trying to get to my next appointment (RIRI!). I did manage to take a touristy picture in between hysterical dry heaves, though.
