KNOTORYUS PREVIEWS ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ACADEMIE’ – 50 YEARS OF ANTWERP FASHION DEPARTMENT
If you know anything about me, you know that I am all about my fashion heritage. And you know what my fashion heritage be?
The Antwerp 6 and everything that’s going on inside the walls of the Fashion Academy to end all Fashion Academies.
Belgian Fashion Brand Xandres understands, because they hired KNOTORYUS this year to highlight a couple of inspiring females for their magazine and when I put ultra knowledgeable -seriously, I could have listened to her talk all day- Antwerp Fashion Academy Librarian and ultimate insider Birgit Ansoms up for nomination (she has seen the likes of Niels Peeraer, Manon Kündig and Minju Kim grow up before her very own eyes) they immediately agreed.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ACADEMIE, however, is the awesome title (anything the W has a hand in always makes me smile) of the insane -and I am not exaggerating – expo that celebrates (a.o.there is a lot of fashion festiveness going on in Antwerp) the 50th anniversary of the Antwerp Fashion Academy.
We were invited to the opening event and besides the joy of seeing Antwerp 6 original, Academy Teacher, DVS owner and all round inspiring human being Dirk Van Saene recognizing his husband’s design on our daughter, walking up to her and yelling cheerfully : “Look at YOU in ZulupaPUWA!” (and her timidly replying : “That’s right”), I had so many type of feelings taking in all of the beautiful madness going on inside one building.
I don’t want to give away too much, just take a look at some of the images we brought back and BOOK YOUR TICKET!
Bruno Pieters & Minju Kim! So much gorgeousness in one image!
The work of my young heroïne Manon Kündig is appropriately highlighted several times throughout the exhibition.
I feel you, Diane! I was making the exact same face you were just about every other minute!
Can’t wait for your H&M collaboration + your own collections to drop, Minju!
