10 GREAT TRACKS THAT WERE USED AS A RUNWAY SOUNDTRACK FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2016

Dior FW 16 Backstage Dirk Alexander

Aside from the collections, I always look forward to the music choices at fashion week. Here are ten tracks I loved, some of them completely new to me, too.

Sonia Rykiel

Essaie Pas – Retox. My favourite discovery this season. It’s so deadpan, French and cool it’s borderline painful. “Telephone. D’urgence. .. Et si tu réponds pas …”

Vetements

Venus with Unit 3 – Beer

(Already posted about this soundtrack earlier. But this clip from a Dutch punk documentary is so worth revisiting.)

Versace

Erasmus – Ti Ricordi Di Me

Only Soulwax can do this: Erasmus is a fake band with members of Belgian cult favourites Kenji Minogue, made for the soundtrack of the Belgian film ‘Belgica’. I was lucky enough to attend the premiere earlier this month and was blown away by many things, but most of all by the performance of Tom Vermeir. I urge everyone to check it out, if only for the insanely high quality and detailed use of music. Let’s hope someone picks this up from the Versace soundtrack and asks them to go on tour.

Dior

Red Axes – Waiting For A Surprise (feat. Abrao)

I miss Tel Aviv. Love this track. Starts out with an electro beat that’s morse code for ‘headphones on and onward to a better self’. Then the whispering starts.

Rodarte

Terry Riley – In the Summer

I only know Terry Riley from “A Rainbow in Curved Air”, but this track makes me want to dig a bit deeper next time.

Acne Studios

Tones On Tail – Twist

Another discovery for me. Apparently, this is a Bauhaus side project from the early eighties. Very very addictive.

Off-White

Ciccone Youth – Into the Groovey

Much-loved Sonic Youth side project, recorded in a supermarket booth by Kim Gordon as a joke. If you like this, check ‘Addicted to Love‘.

Givenchy

Map.ache – Give Peace a Change

First time I’ve heard of this guy. Excellent stuff for strutting.

Chanel

Rouge Mécanique – Witches

Go check out their Soundcloud and feel slightly, deliciously better than people who haven’t.

Miu Miu

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions – Forest Fire. I must admit the video adds much to my fondness of this passive-agressive eighties track. Don’t feel guilty. Just feel the pleasure.
