Ahead of Raf Simons’ debut show as Chief Creative Officer for Calvin Klein on February 10th, the brand has elected to let us in on their first new wave, dubbed ‘By Appointment’. Calvin Klein’s New York celebrity by-appointment atelier will now become a line on its own, no longer just catering to the wealthy and famous but acting as an open bespoke service for all, from custom traditional embroidery to modern tailoring. A fresh take on an established tradition, which seems aptly foreboding.
Shot and styled by Raf’s trusted team of Willy Vanderperre + Olivier Rizzo, the first drop of lookbook images (named ‘CKBA 1-14’) zooms in on Americana iconography. In a press statement, Simons notes ‘Calvin Klein is not only about iconic underwear and jeans – it’s about so much more’. In the images, every decade of American women’s fashion, from the … Read More »
Milan has been synonymous with luxury business apparel for the longest, with silk cravatte and attaché cases stretching from one end of the Po valley to the other. But the city’s runways no longer seem that interested in keeping up the storyline and are leaning more heavily than ever into luxe sportswear. The Italian suit hasn’t died, and it never will, but its more relaxed cousin has shown up to the party and happens to have a juicier story. So what did #MFW come to serve for AW17?
When Prada’s show seating arrangements of OMA-designed latex-covered motel beds and ‘boiserie’ partitions were being revealed on Instagram, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The mint and yellow tiling and formica backdrops seemingly betrayed little but told us everything at the same time. A return to simplicity and essentiality was what Mamma Miuccia had in mind. … Read More »
Hopefully you’re reading this on a scorching beach squinting over the rim of your shades while holding your phone upside down “‘cause that really gets the WiFi juices flowing”. Hopefully you haven’t even picked up a newspaper lately because you’d only have to instantly slap it back down screeching “Not today, Satan”. Hopefully you’re hiking with your family and someone left an unlocked, fully charged iPad on this exact web page perched on a rock and your interest can’t help but be piqued. If none of that’s the case: here are some things to quench your spirit thirst, as the dog days creep closer.
No we’re wearing the Gucci, mother
Okay, so Formation is finally coming to Belgium this weekend and I’m bursting at the seams with anticipation. I’ve managed to dodge concert footage for months, like I was curving a particularly … Read More »

I come from an upbringing where I struggled with the dichotomy that comes with spending one’s childhood and early teenage years in a strict catholic school environment with mandated weekly church visits and all its accompanying subservient rituals, while on the other hand going home to the gritty and grey but proud and somehow boasting and free-feeling aesthetics of social housing. The latter is where I spent a lot of hours holed up in my room with my books and music (and the few magazines that were available in our small-ish town), watching my older brother hang out with his skater friends and observing the lanky and pale drugged-out neighbourhood boys with faded haircuts wearing shiny skinny necklaces circle around on souped-up mopeds, football scarves tied around mouth and chin.
I know now, this is why, some years later, in the late 90s, the fashion imagery … Read More »

Raise your hands if you have been fangirl-ing over a Director of Photography and Visual Artist for almost ten years straight. No one? Nicolas Karakatsanis makes it so easy, though. He has captured groundbreaking music videos for artists like Baloji and The Hickey Underworld, is currently one of the most sought-after DOP’s in the world (watch “The Drop” with Tom Hardy and the late James Gandolfini if you haven’t and hold out for “Triple 9” with Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet, set to be released in 2016) and he has won multiple awards doing so. Over the years he has also shot some of the most gorgeous images ever, plus he is now collaborating with legendary fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre.
Because Nicolas has a brand new exhibition called “WAYS OF SEEING – EPISODE 1”- coming up at … Read More »
