‘Reset’ is the first new Gesaffelstein drop in five years (not counting his work on the “My Dear Melancholy” EP with The Weekend), but it doesn’t come out guns blazing. It’s a lot more subtle than that. Is the title a comment on his own career? The repetitive nature of his own music? Is it an intention? A manifesto? The video will trigger even more discussion: it’s a a simple but brilliant and haunting sequence of loops in which we see a hip hop battle reset over and over, increasingly swallowing up everyone involved in a vicious circle of props, tattoos, wigs and body-manipulation. It’s kinda scary, but it also has clown-sized sneakers, so ….
