Peter De Potter Releases 'All Statues Sing Protest Songs' Book

Antwerp visual artist, writer, curator, educator and extolled image-maker Peter De Potter, forever immortalised as the designer behind ‘The Life of Pablo’ and ‘Raf Simons Redux’, has a new book waiting in the wings. Launching on Friday October 6 at Dover Street Market London, ‘All Statues Sing Protest Songs’ is the coveted follow-up to last year’s debut ‘The Vanity of Certain Flowers’.

The book is published by IDEA and will be released at Dover Street Market as part of the store’s Frieze Week Open House. It will contain colour photography as well as black and white images, and inside the book you’ll find a zine containing other, grainier images that look like - to quote Ab Fab’s Bubble - they have been "roneoed and roneoed and this is the very last copy". In a preview shared with Another Man, it’s clear that this will become another staple in the Peter De Potter oeuvre, seeped with the carnal grit and youthful ennui that amassed him a devout following.

An introductory text reveals the activist, of-the-times spirit that the book embraces:

“All statues sleep alone.
All statues grow alone.
All statues are natural forms.
All statues are spiritual forms.
All statues feel so cold.
All statues want to touch you back.

If statues are testimonials, what do we give them to witness in return? These are times of turmoil and uncertainty and abrupt changes. Nowadays we should have statues that cry out, offended and angry.”

‘All Statues Sing Protest Songs’ will be limited to 500 copies only. Peter De Potter will be in store at Dover Street Market from 6 PM on Friday October 6 to sign the first 100 copies. You can RSVP by going here. There will also be 50 T-shirts on sale.

Unless all copies are sold out at Dover Street Market, 100 books will be made available for sale online. You can register for the waiting list here.
