Holly Herndon, Jlin and Spawn. One of these is not like the others. One of these is pure artificial intelligence, “trained” by the other two. Yes, for several months Jlin and Holly Herndon have been feeding the “Spawn” prototype new music so it can learn to make something of its own. “Godmother” started from silence and was made entirely by Spawn. It’s a chilling result. The video is still directed by a human called Daniel Costa Neves, but the imagery itself is equally informed by the software Development of Leif Ryge. Exciting, terrifying stuff.
