The Smile - Wall Of Eyes

How much are we changed by what we see? Or do we see only what is allowed by the changes we go through? Yes, “Wall of Eyes”, the new track by The Smile (Thom and Jonny from Radiohead), is a very welcome soundtrack to staring out the rain-soaked window, thinking about the suffering-soaked world outside. But when I was watching the video by Paul Thomas Anderson, there came a moment when several copies of Thom are sitting together at a bar and my mind just started playing Sisqó with the lyrics “Thom Thooom Thom-Thom-Thom Thoooom” and I kinda had to laugh about that. Swings and roundabouts!

The lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Down a peg or two we all go
Behind a wall of eyes
Of my own deviceIs that still you?
With a heart of ice
Changed to black and white
Strap yourself in

[Refrain]
I try, but it don't go away
I try, but it don't go awayI try, but it don't go away

[Verse 2]
Let us raises our glasses
To what we don't deserve
What we're not worthy of
So rich and wide
To the grains of sand
Slipping through our hands

[Refrain]
I try, but it don't go away (One, two, three, four, five)
I try, but it don't go away (One, two, three, four, five)
I try, but it don't go away (One, two, three, four, five)

[Outro]
Is that still you? (One, two, three, four, five)
Through hollow eyes (One, two, three, four, five)
Changed to black and white (One, two, three, four, five)
So strap yourself in (One, two, three, four, five)
