“Soon I’ll dance at knowing nothing. Soon I’ll laugh at knowing nothing. Nothing is the second coming.” Issue number two of multidisciplinary artist FKA twigs’ digital magazine “AVANTgarden” (which first came out as an Instagram publication in October) has arrived, titled “Dream Warrior”. In it, creative director FKA twigs combines her own poetry with ethereal fashion photography while utilising the zine as an expression and exploration of the self as well as a collaborative platform.
The magazine’s dreamy images were created by the talented image-maker David Uzochukwu, who previously shot FKA twigs for her “Do You Believe In More” Nike campaign released in January (read the KNOTORYUS interview with David Uzochukwu here). Wrapped in billowing sheets, seemingly suspended high in the air, the artist and a cast of models reflect a pantheon of modern beauty.
Styled by trusted collaborator Matthew Josephs, this new “AVANTgarden” also sees FKA twigs debut a “Dream Warrior” capsule collection, featuring satin pyjamas covered in ancient spell prints and protective signs. In the words of the artist: “Through my exploration of mysticism, I created symbols that protect and invite otherworldly creatures to assist those who wear the sets in their everyday lives.”
