Listen (no seriously, listen) to Yaeji - EP2

Melancholic & bouncy, singing & MC'ing in English and Korean, this new EP is one of those small releases you'll end up playing over and over.

Her voice is unmistakably her own – a hushed whisper sliding in and out of English and Korean, so present yet barely there at all. Yaeji’s self-titled debut came out this past Spring to wide-eyed praise from Pitchfork, Fader, Boiler Room, NPR, Resident Advisor, and the New Yorker. Yaeji follows up her debut with ‘EP2’, out November 3 on Godmode. First single ‘drink i’m sippin on’ is a bold step forward, with crisp modular synth programming influenced in equal parts by rap and techno, and a dizzyingly catchy vocal performance about “making up what what you can’t see.” The video is directed by frequent collaborator Anthony Sylvester, and was shot verite in the ambient lighting of New York’s Chinatown. To celebrate the release, Yaeji will be performing live in Seoul, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles in early November. Her hybrid CDJ performances at MoMA PS1, Boiler Room, and Hot Mass this year have been sweltering crowd-inclusive revelries, featuring Yaeji singing her own songs over the sounds and records that inspire her. artist: yaeji release: EP2 label: Godmode date: 3 November 2017 tracklisting: 01 feelings change 02 raingurl 03 drink i’m sippin on 04 after that 05 passionfruit credits: all songs and sounds by kathy yaeji lee and nick sylvester (except “passionfruit”, by aubrey graham and nana rogues) vocals, synths, and programming by kathy yaeji lee synths and programming by nick sylvester produced by nick sylvester assistant mixing by robert szmurlo mastered by sarah register written, recorded, and mixed at godmode studios (bk/la) instruments used: mfb tanzbar, dave smith instruments tempest, moog sub37, intellijel atlantis, intellijel shapeshifter, intellijel rainmaker, intellijel metropolis, makenoise sto, makenoise phonogene, makenoise erbe-verb, makenoise echophon, qubit electronix nanorand, soundtoys crystallizer, soundtoys echoboy, korg minilogue, makenoise 0-coast, teenage engineering OP-1, camel audio alchemy, logic exs24, logic es2, ableton live, soundtoys little alterboy, antares auto-tune EFX, hexinverter mutant hi-hats, hexinverter mutant bass drum, mutable instruments rings, alm busy circuits dinky’s taiko, ericasynths black wavetable vco, xaoc batumi, mannequins just friends, mannequins three sisters, arturia cs80, future audio workshop circle2, cassette tape deck (brand unknown), human voice, human hands, humming air conditioners and other inadvertent ambience. contact god at godmodemusic dot com
