Tim Walker Releases 30 Fundraising Prints for LGBTQ Charity

Tim Walker Releases 30 Fundraising Prints for LGBTQ Charity

For the June issue of British Vogue, legend fashion photographer Tim Walker and stylist Kate Phelan created a story capturing the enduring allure of Jamaica and its inhabitants. Part of that feature highlights the self-titled "Gully Queens". A name representing Jamaica's homeless and displaced LGBTQ+ community that takes shelter in storm drains due to the daily persecution they face since Jamaica is a place steeped in Christian colonial heritage with sodomy laws still in place. They are threatened, disowned, attacked, evicted, targeted by arson and even killed. If you have a moment, check out this short documentary feature on the Gully Queens; their story touched me deeply when I first saw it. That easily could've been me.

Inspired by the boldness and braveness of how the Gully Queens unwaveringly express themselves through make-up, hair and fashion, Tim Walker will be releasing 30 signed prints of the Queens at Photo London 2018. All proceeds will go towards the Larry Chang Centre helping out Jamaica's young and homeless LGBTQ+ community. With Pride taking off around the world, it's the perfect occasion to support those who don't get to celebrate alongside us.

You can contact gullyqueens@timwalkerphotography.com to purchase one of the prints.
