“Dislocated” is the closing track on Billy Wood’s latest album ‘Golliwog’. It’s one of the albums I’ve been most looking forward to this year and on first listen it more than delivers. The delivery - poetic hop-skips from sound patterns to layered meanings - and cinematic soundscapes sometimes remind me of Jay Electronica, but Billy is definitely his own man, exploring broader storytelling themes and impressionistic verbal picture-painting, going down rabbit holes and eerie forest paths. In the video for “Dislocated”, we find him with ELUCID, lurking and serving up his words in a moonlit landscape "In the forest face painted / Fingertips black with charcoal / I waited and waited / Anything I gave / I waited / Same as I got / Anything I caught / I killed it, I ate it / I can't be located/“ It’s dark. Often too dark to see anything up ahead. And then, right at the end, the light comes in.
