When I first saw Blonde Redhead, founded by Kazu Makino and twin brothers Simone and Amadeo Pace, they were a pretty clumsy art band touring with their patrons, Sonic Youth. Singer Kazu was shrieking instead singing and the twins were... let's just call it 'experimental'. Nowadays, the band is known for hugely soaring tunes and strong, emotional lyrics. Their previous album 'Misery is a Butterfly' was made shortly after singer Kazu's face was trampled by a horse. Their newest album '23' is accompanied by 5 shorts by another KNOTORYUS favourite: Mike Mills. (Below: 'Humans03' from his 'Humans' show)

Mills is now touring festivals with 'Does Your Sould Have a Cold?', his new documentary about depression and anti-depression medication in Japan.  (Here's the trailer)

We already showed you his short film featuring Miranda July (The artist resonsible for the gut-wrenchingly beautiful 'You & Me & Eeveryone We Know') in a previous edition of TUBEFEED. Now's the time to show you the rest of the Mills bunch. All videos focus on a single element.

Quote Mike Mills: "I chose not to compete with the richness of the sound but to explore poverty. What if I only had one element? How could I reduce that element to it's composite parts? Could I reduce that again? If I kept reducing, would I get to the hugeness of the music? Could this be the way to visualize the hope for love and transformation that I feel in the music?"

e.g. For their new single 'The Dress', Mike Mills filmed unknown people crying with a static camera. (See Above)
