New York photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis has a tome to unveil. Her autobiographically tinged images have been praised for the longest for their realness and vivid, flawed, raw but deep-down optimistic nature. Creating both fine art as well as commercial collaborations – you’ve seen her work for Nike, LVMH, adidas, i-D, The Fader, Supreme and much more – she has been a consistent eye and tastemaker for the past 20 years. And now there’s a book to sign. Presented by publishers Baque/Creative press, the good folks at Patta Amsterdam and Athenaeum Boekhandel & Nieuwscentrum, you’re able to get your copy autographed at a signing happening on July 6 in Amsterdam.
The hardback book (160 pages) features an introduction by the great Ryan McGinley and gives you a fuller look at Shaniqwa Jarvis’ archive. The monograph combines her both editorial and personal work created over the past two decades. It’s carefully crafted and curated selection, including a few of the artist’s personal faves like the 'Bathroom Portraits', shot in bar bathrooms in the early 2000s.
