More, more, more! Legendary fashion designer, author, fragrance titan, director & set creator Jean Paul Gaultier is taking his Parisian spectacle ‘Fashion Freak Show’ to London’s South Bank Centre from July 23 to August 2 2019. The show is described as an ‘extravagant yet tender look at our times’ and inducts you into a universe of fashion, performance and music. Always looking for the frisson in life, Jean Paul Gaultier showcases his latest designs in this runway-meets-party revue full of joy and trademark provocativeness. As proven by the just-dropped, Lourdes Leon-fronted Supreme x Jean Paul Gaultier collaboration, the French designer’s indomitable spirit remains steeped in relevance.
‘Fashion Freak Show’ originated at Les Folies Bergère in September 2018 with actors, circus performers and dancers embodying larger-than-life (but still stylish and sexy) characters. It’s a hop-skip down Gaultier Memory Lane, symbolizing moments from JPG’s buzzcut-and-navy-striped life: from early childhood and his budding career to his biggest fashion shows and Paris to London nightclub soirées. Tributes and winks are made to the world of cinematic auteurs like Luc Besson and Pedro Almodóvar. The music ranges from pop divas like Kylie Minogue, Mylène Farmer and Madonna to new wave, rock and punk. The dancers pay homage to the work of choreographers Régine Chopinot and Angelin Preljocaj. It’s a riot.
Tickets are on sale now via London’s South Bank Centre, so don’t be snoozing.
