American cellist and pop iconoclast Kelsey Lu has been residing on the Cayman Islands while recording her next album and along the way sheโs been documenting the rise and fall of the sun. These visual documents are also transformed into soundscapes called โHydroharmoniaโ . This is the first one of the series and it is tear-inducingly beautiful, peaceful and expansive with unexpected, thoughtful instrumentation and harmonies rising and falling like thoughts passing through a watchful mind. It reminds me of both Alice Coltraneโs work and the more verbalised journey of Charlotte Adigรฉryโs Yin Yang Meditation. Perfect for taking a pauze and being present or just as a background soundscape while youโre sitting out another historical moment.
