In 1998, Portishead’s DJ Andy Smith, Geoff Barrow & Adrian Utley took over XFM with two hours of top quality mayhem. They were a bit red-nosed (less than five minutes in they describe an AIR gig as “blindingly French” and a bit later they tease Andy about his “record rubbing”), but the tunes are absolutely on point. Andy even spins some unused Portishead beats along the way. A good time was had by all, and now can be had again, thanks to DJ Andy Smith’s Lockdown tape digitising project. Cheers, Andy!
